Man arrested after passengers threatened with scissors

A man was arrested after allegedly threatening passengers with scissors on the Albert Park Light Rail carriage during peak hour on Wednesday.

Police said the 35-year-old Footscray man, allegedly armed with a pair of scissors, stood in the doorway of the carriage, kicking the myki machine and behaving in an erratic manner.

The man allegedly threatened a passenger with the scissors before getting off the carriage at the Dorcas Street platform around 8am.

Police said they managed to negotiate with the man and get him to put down the scissors. He was arrested without incident.

The man was later charged with assault using a weapon, criminal damage and riotous behaviour, and has been taken to Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.
