Electrical fault caused fatal Pike Township condo fire

Investigators have determined that an electrical fault caused the fatal fire in a Pike Township condominium Tuesday.

“The fire was caused by a fault in a surge protector power cord,” Pike Township Fire Division Chief Troy Clements said.

Two women, including Elenor Mitchell, 89, were living in the unit in the 4800 block of London Drive when a fire destroyed their home early Tuesday.

When firefighters arrived at the scene about 5:15am, one of the women was outside and said Mitchell was still inside.

Her body was found in the upstairs bedroom, Clements said.
