A mother and toddler were rushed to hospital after their car was flung onto its side after a collision in Officer on Thursday morning.
Police told the Gazette that a witness saw the woman run a red light while travelling north along Cardinia Road and that her Nissan collided with a BMW turning right out of Damon Street near Arena Shopping Centre, about 9.55am on Thursday 11 August.
The angle of the impact caused the woman’s car to flip on its side.
CFA firefighters at the scene told the Gazette that a woman and child, who appeared to be about two years old, had been inside the overturned car at the time of the crash.
The crew had the situation under control by 10.30am.
An ambulance was called to the incident and took the woman to Casey Hospital to be assessed for minor injuries. The driver of the BMW was not injured as a result of the crash.
Cardinia Highway Patrol, SES and two CFA vehicles were also called to scene.
Cardinia Road was cordoned off between Damon Street and Arena Shopping Centre while the cars were towed away.
